Joe Richards has gone from schoolteacher to AFL player in just a matter of months, completing a stellar rise from country football to the big league.
The former Ovens and Murray Football League star will make his AFL debut for the Magpies on Sunday, after being drafted by the club with pick 53 in the 2024 Rookie Draft.
It's been a whirlwind few months for Richards, who had never spoken to an AFL club until a few months ago.
But the 23-year-old has impressed the Magpies' coaching staff with his athleticism, skills and work ethic, and is now set to make his AFL debut against the Bulldogs at the MCG.
